Gamera vs. Guiron DVD

Filmusik’s re-imagining of Gamera vs. Guiron is really huge!!  Remaking the sonic landscape of a vintage “kaiju”monster film from the ground up.  Every note, scream and crash is created by the Filmusik crew.  Based on their live performances at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland Oregon, Gamera vs. Guiron premieres a new work by composer Galen Huckins written for chamber ensemble.  The Willamette Radio Workshop, veterans of live radio theatre take on the characters of the film, dubbing the dialog into English from the original 1969 script.  The monsters themselves get a new vocal cords from the twisted sound design of Marc Rose whose noises bring the space gadgetry of the planet “Tera” to life.

Gamera vs. Guiron or Attack of the Monsters (1969) is an epic Japanese monster film starring 3 of the biggest, baddest fire-breathing condo-crushing “kaiju” of the day.  On a distant planet, 2 brain eating space babes protect their domain from intruders with the fearsome Guiron with a knife for a head and the ability to shoot shuriken out of his nostrils.  When two boys from the Earth end up in the clutches of the cannibal aliens Gamera, jet powered megaturtle, swoops in to do battle in a showdown of “Scarface” proportions.

The noisiest silent film you’ll ever see, Filmusik’s Gamera vs. Guiron takes a fresh look at how we see films and the artists behind the screen.
